Dancing

There’s a new dance in town folks and it’s a goodie!  Some of you may already know clarinet Demeisne Reynolds from other bands like The Don Valley Stompers, but he and some of the other local jazz musicians called “The Don Valley Swing Cats” have started a new night called “Swing Dance Sessions” at The Winchester Kitchen & Bar in Cabbagetown.  The plan is to dedicate the night to us dancers which means they’ve cleared some space to dance and will have a DJ on the set breaks.

From the Winchester website:

Don Valley Singcats bring the Winchester back to its glory days with big band sounds. A night dedicated to the dancers space to move and swing , and lovers of dancefloor swing, jazz, blues, RnB and gospel.  DJ Phil will be keeping it moving in between the band sets, so be sure to bring your dancin shoes.

For those that aren’t familiar with the Winchester it’s an old bar dating back to the Prohibition days.  Rumour has it even Al Capone has been there.  It has a great vibe and is a perfect fit for some great jazz and dancing.  Check out the photo gallery on their website and you’ll see what I mean.

The Winchester Kitchen and Bar is at 51A Winchester Street on the second floor, on the corner of Winchester and Parliament (between Carleton and Wellesley).  The next one is on Thursday, Nov. 15th at 9 pm and there’s a $5 cover for the night.

Check out the info on the Facebook event page.  Right now they are running it monthly but if it’s successful enough we can expect more!
